Book Review George by Alex Gino
I really, really love this book. [Chime sound
effect] Hello, Youtube! I just got this book: George by Alex Gino. I just read the whole
book and I just want to say I really, really love this book. It's really adorable, and
it's short and sweet.
It was really cool seeing, um, the person at the store hadn't heard of
this book, and then they found it and they opened it up and they looked at it, and they
were like, "Ohhh, oh, I should read this story." I feel like I helped spread the information
about this book to the people at Vroman's, so that's pretty cool. Spoiler alert for some
of this video. If you don't want to be spoiled at all, just go read it. It's great.
This
story is about a young transgender girl who knows she's a girl and is going through the
process of helping the people around her learn and understand that she is a girl. It just
came out on Tuesday, so you probably haven't seen it until, like, now, but a lot of people
have been reading it. Some people have recommended it to me, so thank you to those of you who
have recommended this to me and have been posting about it. Let's keep posting about
it and talking about it and making this really well known.
One of the things I really enjoyed
was the moment she transistions and becomes Melissa thein the text it changes from
George to Melissa, and it's like this moment when Melissa gets to be seen by everybody
else. I think we have a lot of stories about transgender youth and not getting support
and that's an important story to tell because that's what happens so often, but I think
it's also important to tell the stories of transgender youth getting that support so
you can see the difference that it makes and see that, you know, with support a transgender
kid can, you know, be pretty happy and quite all right. So the author is a transgender author, and
they wrote about a transgender character, and I think that's really exciting because
we have a lot of trans stories right now that are written and created by cisgender people.
They often don't include transgender people in any aspect of the creation of the story,
and then they get lots of things wrong. So really exciting! Support works about transgender
people written by transgender people, created by transgender people.
Great concept! Let's
do more of it. So I highly recommend you read this book:
George by Alex Gino. Stay awesome, y'all. Bye!.
